Why this matters

Rishta biodatas travel fast on WhatsApp. Most are honest. But some are fake, copied or made to trick people, and they hurt real families. A few simple checks protect you.

Seven warning signs

  1. The photos look like a model shootOr you have seen them somewhere else before.
  2. They avoid a video callAlways with a new excuse.
  3. The story keeps changingCity, job, family details: small changes add up.
  4. They are in a hurryEverything must be decided this week.
  5. They ask for money or giftsOften for an "emergency".
  6. They ask for private photosOr want to move to another app quickly.
  7. Nobody can vouch for themNo one you know can say who they or their family are.
One sign alone may mean nothing. Two or three together mean stop and check.

What to do

  • Never send money to someone you have not met, for any reason.
  • Ask for a video call early. A real person who wants nikah will agree.
  • Ask people you trust in the jamaat if they know the family.
  • Keep your private photos and documents private.
  • If something feels wrong, stop talking. You do not owe anyone an explanation.
